We usually profile a client of the firm. However, in 2016 one of our directors, David Young, joined the Board of the Tangalooma EcoMarines Foundation. David is excited about the work being undertaken by the charity and its potential to inspire school children and the community at large. We thought it was time to shine the spotlight on what this innovative charity is up to.
Tangalooma EcoMarines is a unique and multi-award winning environmental education program aimed at developing environmental leadership among students of all ages, their schools, social and sporting clubs, community organisations and local businesses.
While fundamentally trying to improve the health of Moreton Bay for our marine life and human enjoyment, the Foundation focuses on inspiring children to take the lead in making a real difference.
EcoMarines aims to create a community of environmental heroes through marine conservation programs that inspire:
• Primary school children
• Early learning centre children
• Sporting club members
• High school children
• Corporate businesses and their employees
EcoMarines is engaged with 28 primary schools, 161 early learning centres, 7 sporting clubs, 5 pilot high schools and in discussions with several corporations.
Having joined the Board of Directors early last year, David has helped to steer the fledging organisation’s strategic direction.
“EcoMarines is in a constant state of rapid growth, with strong demand for the schools and early childhood programs, in particular,” David said.
“While this continuous expansion is exciting and inspiring, we are also acutely aware of the need to ensure the children are receiving a solid support program, and that we are delivering on our commitments to our corporate partners.”
Current partners include:
• Inaugral Partners: Tangalooma Island Resort and Queensland Urban Utilities
• Gold Partners: Port of Brisbane, Riverlife and Cleanaway
• Silver Partners: Telstra
• Supporters: EDSCO, Channel 7, Inspire, Quest, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane Kids, Nova 106.9, Rarefish PR, Queensland Rail, Hit 105, Earthcheck, River 94.9, Brisbane Marketing, Healthy Waterways, Brisbane Greeters, 4BC and Science Under Sails.
“We are grateful for the contributions our partners make,” David said.
“Without them, we could not create the generational change that’s happening now through these young environmental leaders and their peers.”
“The feedback from students, teachers, parents and corporate partners is always very positive. Like us, they know this is an important cause and we’re on the right path.”
The list of activities run by the Foundation is long and the plans for future activities and programs are ambitious. To keep delivering the Foundation is always keen to welcome new Partners and develop creative packages that deliver valuable returns for their involvement.
