Sometimes we can all become a bit too focused on the technical skills required to do our job and run our business.
We live and operate in challenging times. We face many business pressures and at the same time we, and our teams, also deal with a wide range of personal pressures.
In that context, we thought it important to look at the soft skills that are critical to enabling us as business leaders to run our businesses and encourage our teams:
People struggle to understand their place in an organisation when they are kept in the dark. Open and regular communication is a key way to show transparency and build respect with our teams.
In today’s world uncertainty and pressure to perform seem to be the norm. Having a leader who is calm, collected and consistent is critical to keeping the team focused and on track with the business’ goals.
As well as requiring the hard skills to enable the technical part of our job to be done, as the leader we need to display the soft skills required to effectively lead the delivery of our company strategy.
Don’t forget that as well as evolving the business, we need to focus on our own personal development. Whether it be conferences, webinars or training, we are never done learning.
Cultivate the big picture:
As leaders we create the big picture for our businesses. What is the strategy, where do we want to take the business? It is important we are seen to live and breathe the message of our big picture to take our teams along for the ride.
We encourage all business leaders to have a plan for ensuring you are focusing on these important soft skills to maximise the outcomes for your business.
Hopefully you are addressing these areas well. If you would like help in planning for improvements in your business, please contact John or David on 07 3221 4465.
